According to a recent report by Symfoni TV, former President Goodluck Jonathan has strongly criticized key actors in Nigeria’s governance, accusing them of turning a blind eye to the political crisis in Rivers State. Speaking on the issue, he likened the situation to an Indian proverb, stating that while a sleeping person can be awakened, it is difficult to wake someone pretending to sleep.
Jonathan expressed concern over what he described as a clear abuse of office, power, and privileges across the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary. He accused officials of deliberately ignoring the right course of action, warning that their inaction has serious consequences for governance and the country’s global reputation.
The former president also lamented the declining value of Nigeria’s passport and the poor treatment of Nigerians at international airports, attributing these issues not only to cybercrime but also to bad governance and poor decision-making by leaders.

Highlighting the dangers of a compromised Judiciary, Jonathan warned that no investor would risk their money in a country where government officials dictate court rulings. He urged all leaders—whether in the Executive, Parliament, or Judiciary—to act in the nation’s best interest, emphasizing that the future of Nigeria’s children depends on the right choices made today.
Jonathan called on Nigerian leaders to embrace accountability and take bold steps to protect the country’s democracy, stressing that doing the right thing, though difficult, is necessary for national progress.
