Kenneth Okonkwo, a lawyer, has stated that the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State was unnecessary, especially since there was no major crisis in the state

Speaking in a video shared by Symfoni TV from 15:46, Okonkwo said during the local government elections in the state, several secretariats were burned down by people opposing Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He said that in one incident, the authorities caught a person with bomb yet nothing has been heard about his case.

Okonkwo stated that despite these violent acts happening in broad daylight, no one was arrested for setting the secretariats on fire.

In Okonkwo’s words: “When they organized the local government elections in Rivers State, secretariats were burned by people who were against Governor Fubara. Somebody was caught with a bomb, he detonated it and it wounded him. They traced him, they knew him and they arrested him. What has happened to him? Till date nothing”
