Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, denied responsibility for recent oil pipeline explosions, which led President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency. Tinubu accused Fubara of failing to prevent militant attacks and neglecting to rebuild the Hallowed Chambers of the State House of Assembly.

Through his press secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara stated on Thursday in Port Harcourt that the President acted based on inadequate information. He emphasized that he never encouraged threats against oil facilities and that Niger Delta stakeholders, including elders and militants, reacted to remarks by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who dismissed Ijaws as powerless.

Fubara highlighted his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and oil facility protection. He recalled his role in the Presidential Committee on Oil Installation Protection and noted investments in security, including vehicles, helicopters, and accommodation for personnel. He also clarified that the Assembly Chambers were demolished based on expert advice, with reconstruction now 80% complete.

He urged security agencies to investigate real perpetrators of violence rather than falsely accusing his administration, reaffirming his dedication to peace and stability in Rivers State.
