The Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, Engineer Yabagi Sani has claimed that the Social Democratic Party is effectively controlled by the All Progressives Congress and Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political group.
Speaking in an interview on Trust TV, Sani dismissed the recent wave of defections to the SDP, arguing that the party is merely an extension of the ruling APC.
“I’m talking about SDP because every political watcher will tell you that SDP belongs to APC. The person that is the leader of APC today is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. You have to look at the root of SDP,” Sani stated.
He pointed out Tinubu’s historical connection to the party, saying, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu contested on the platform of SDP as a Senator.”
Sani further alleged that Afenifere, a group with historical ties to the SDP, would never oppose Tinubu’s leadership or back a candidate who could challenge the APC’s hold on power.
“We know that the owners of SDP today, Afenifere is one of them. There is no way Afenifere will fight Bola Ahmed Tinubu or support any other candidate to take the power away from them.
So we should stop Deceiving Nigerians. We can’t fight this government from the platform of SDP, ” he added.
His remarks come amid growing defections from various parties to the SDP, raising speculation about the party’s role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
While SDP presents itself as an alternative platform, Sani’s comments suggest it may be more aligned with the ruling APC than it appears.
As Nigeria moves closer to future elections, these political realignments could shape the country’s democratic process, with opposition parties seeking to challenge the dominance of the APC.
