Former Minister of Education and prominent advocate for good governance, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has called for an independent investigation into the sexual harassment allegations leveled against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In an interview with News Central TV, Ezekwesili criticized the handling of the allegations and emphasized the need for transparency and accountability.

At some point during the interview, Ezekwesili stated that “there is a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who fought tooth and nail to be elected and one of the only four women in the Senate. Nigeria has the lowest number.

“Nigeria is three percent of women in Parliament, and it’s the lowest in Africa, with Rwanda at sixty-one percent. It’s a show of shame that Nigeria is three percent, and now of the three percent, one of them is saying to the society that I was sexually harassed by the senate president, who, in the abuse of his power, is now punishing me for having the audacity to reject his proposals,” Ezekwesili stated.

Speaking further, she stated that, “if we heard as a people, what do you think we will ask for? We would ask for an independent investigation. We will not expect the senate president to be telling us what is and what is not because now he is a party to an issue.
