According to the Daily Post Newspaper, former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that Pastor Tunde Bakare was the one who introduced him to politics.

El-Rufai stated that it was Bakare who first connected him with former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an interview with BBC Hausa on Thursday, the ex-governor clarified that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not influenced by Buhari.

El-Rufai, who recently switched allegiance from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), asserted that the former ruling party had lost its direction.

He criticized the APC, saying that its members were primarily focused on their personal interests and financial gains.

According to him, “the government operates like a business, where everything has a cost.”

He further lamented that fairness had been abandoned, and those who contributed to the party’s success were sidelined rather than rewarded. “Whenever there’s a political appointment, it is handed over to people from Lagos while others are disregarded,” he remarked.

“This is why we have been raising our voices. We made it clear that this is no longer the party we once knew—it is finished. I decided that I had to consult Pastor Tunde Bakare because he was the one who initially got me involved with the APC.

“He was the one who introduced me to Buhari. My membership in the APC was not because of Buhari but because of Pastor Bakare, so it was only proper that I inform him.

“I also informed Buhari about my departure from the party and sought his prayers. He told me he had given me his blessings.

“We are the ones still active in politics, while he (Buhari) has stepped back as an elder statesman. He continues to pray for us, and that is all that remains.”

Hear him speak: “He took me to Buhari. I did not join the APC because of Buhari, it was Pastor Bakare, who dragged me to APC and courtesy demands I should let him know.”
