Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has accused his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, of disrespecting key political figures who helped him become governor. During a media chat, Wike expressed disappointment over Fubara’s actions, especially towards respected elders in the state.
In a video that was shared by TVC News, Wike revealed that Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, an elder statesman over 80 years old, played a key role in Fubara’s selection as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate. According to Wike, Alabraba was so passionate about an Ijaw man becoming governor that he cried during meetings. However, after becoming governor, Fubara allegedly insulted the same man on television.
“This boy went and abused this elder statesman, that one elder who doesn’t know what to do. A man who has made money long before he was born. His children went to the best of schools,” he stated.
Wike also mentioned that Fubara disrespected OCJ Okocha, another respected figure, and even removed Chief Sergeant Awuse from a political position while he was recovering from a coma. Wike described this as an act of betrayal, stating that those who supported Fubara now regret their decision.
According to Wike, Fubara has distanced himself from the people who once stood by him and is now struggling to gain control over the state’s political crisis. He suggested that if Fubara had maintained good relationships with these elders, the current crisis between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State could have been avoided.
