Acccording to Dailypost, former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has laid out two key conditions for Governor Siminalayi Fubara if he truly wants peace to return to the state.
Wike insists that Fubara must formally resubmit the 2025 budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly under Speaker Martin Amaewhule and also reintroduce his list of commissioners for approval. According to him, without these actions, any talk of peace is meaningless.
During a media briefing in Abuja, Wike emphasized that stability in Rivers State depends on following due process. He dismissed any notion that peace can be achieved without first correcting what he sees as procedural missteps.
“You cannot claim to want peace while ignoring the necessary steps,” Wike asserted. “Peace comes when the right things are done—re-present the budget, send in the list of commissioners. There is no room for illegality.”
Reflecting on Fubara’s rise to power, Wike revealed that his selection as governor was met with opposition from some Ijaw political figures. He also noted that the Ijaw people, as a minority in both Rivers State and the Niger Delta, have limited chances of producing governors outside Bayelsa State.
