Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has criticized the way Governor Siminalayi Fubara is handling the political crisis in the state. He believes that Fubara is not making a genuine effort to bring peace but is instead trying to impress people without taking the right steps.

In a video that was shared by TVC News, Wike argues that if Fubara truly wanted peace, he would have met with the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly instead of sending an official letter. He compared this to how things work at the federal level, saying that a Secretary to the Government would never write directly to the Senate President or the Speaker of the House of Representatives about the President’s plans.

According to Wike, in politics, personal discussions are important. Instead of just sending a letter announcing his decision, Fubara should have called the Speaker and asked for a meeting. That way, they could talk and agree on the best way forward. He explained that when he was in government, he never simply wrote letters to the Speaker. Instead, he would call and arrange a discussion.

Wike believes that Fubara is not truly interested in peace but is only trying to appear sincere to the public. He insists that a good politician must understand how to build relationships and solve problems through direct communication, not just official paperwork.

In his words, “Mr Speaker, where are you? Are you at home? Can we talk, and then you agree on something?” For Wike, this is the proper way to lead and bring peace.
