According to a report by Punch, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe has sparked a wave of discussions with his comments regarding men’s reactions to women’s beauty, especially in the context of politics.

Speaking on Arise News on Monday, Ogunlewe claimed that men naturally notice attractive women, and this instinctive reaction can be a challenge for female politicians.

In his remarks, Ogunlewe referred to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that her beauty attracts attention in a way that may distract others from her political capabilities.

“To men, when she’s passing, there’s no way a man will not look at that woman,” he stated, defending his viewpoint by explaining that such reactions are instinctual. According to Ogunlewe, it is in a man’s nature to notice beautiful women. “It is a natural thing for a man to look at beautiful women. How can you be a man, and a beautiful woman is passing, and you close your eyes?” he asked rhetorically.

The former Minister of Works emphasized that these reactions are not always intentional but are deeply rooted in human nature. His comments suggest that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s beauty, while a personal trait, may affect how she is perceived in the political space, particularly by men who may struggle to separate her appearance from her political acumen.

Despite the controversy, Ogunlewe defended his position, stating that his remarks reflect a natural and inescapable human tendency. He further emphasized that these are not derogatory views but rather observations of how people react to beauty, which he believes is beyond anyone’s control.
