Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has made strong claims regarding Senator Natasha Akpoti’s recent legal actions and public statements concerning Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During coverage broadcast by Symfoni TV, Senator Bamidele directly addressed the ongoing controversy involving the Kogi Central lawmaker. “Mr. President, I sympathize with you as a man being accused of harassment, and I am not going to comment on that, because there’ll be an ample opportunity for the relevant authorities to deal with that,” Bamidele stated. “But I know, dear colleagues, that distinguished Senator Natasha went to court on a matter and then appeared on Arise TV on another matter, talking about harassment.”

Sen. Bamidele further explained that the Senate President’s family had taken legal action in response: “And the wife of the president of the Senate, Mrs. Uloma Akpabio, on behalf of the family, the children went to court, and parties have been served on allegation of harassment.”

The Majority Leader emphasized that the Senate’s approach to the situation must remain grounded in legal principles rather than emotions. “So, it is important for the public to know, and also our observers, including our foreign observers who are also parliamentarians from the United Kingdom, to know that, as political as this matter can be, we cannot be emotional about it. We are guided by three different things. We are guided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.”

The Senate ruled out the petition of Senator Natasha against the Senate President on the allegation of Harassment. The members of the Senate had argued that the laid down procedure of the Senate in filing the petition was not followed by Senator Natasha.
