The Spokesperson of the Senate, Yemi Adaramodu, has clarified that Senate President Godswill Akpabio would not just invite another senator to meet him in a hotel.
He made this statement during an interview with Arise TV when asked to address Senator Ireti Kingibe’s recent claim about what senator Natasha allegedly told her. Senator Kingibe had stated in a previous interview with Arise TV, that Senator Natasha Akpoti once mentioned wanting to discuss an issue with the Senate President, who allegedly suggested meeting in a hotel.
While addressing this claim, Senator Adaramodu expressed uncertainty about the context of Senator Kingibe’s statement and whether it was accurate. He emphasized that when senators engage in oversight functions, they conduct their duties accordingly. He reaffirmed that the Senate President would not casually invite a fellow senator to a hotel.
He further mentioned that he had watched Senator Kingibe’s interview but had not personally heard her make the statement. According to him, the matter is between the two senators and does not concern the Senate as an institution.
He said, “I don’t know in what context senator Ireti Kingibe said that. I’m not sure whether it was true or not. All I know is that, if there’s any oversight function anywhere, we do go to do oversight. I know the Senate President will not just invite another senator to come to a hotel. I didn’t listen to that interview. I didn’t even hear that one from senator Ireti Kingibe, because I watched that interview. I didn’t know the time that she said so. That’s between the two senators. That’s not for the Senate.”
