Renowned lawyer, social critic, and media influencer Kenneth Okonkwo has spoken out on the ongoing legislative crisis in Rivers State, drawing a parallel with a recent Supreme Court ruling on the Plateau State House of Assembly.
Okonkwo highlighted that the Supreme Court upheld the legitimacy of the Plateau House of Assembly with only six members after the remaining legislators defected.
He compared this to the situation in Rivers, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara presented a budget to a four-man Assembly following the defection of 27 lawmakers.
In a video shared by Symfoni TV from 6:05, he stated, “A governor presented a budget before a four-man House of Assembly when it was obvious that the other 27 have defected,” Okonkwo stated, criticizing the legitimacy of the legislative process under such circumstances.
His remarks underscore a broader debate on the legality of lawmakers retaining their seats after defecting from their original political party.
