Dr. Balaraba Isah, a female medical doctor, has shared how she was locked up in a small cell with over 30 male detainees who were told to beat her at a police station in Gwarinmpa, Abuja

In an interview with Brekete Family, a human rights program, Balaraba said that the space was very tight, but the detainees made room for her. She said despite being the only woman, they treated her like a sister and did not harm her. She said that even when the police instructed the detainees to beat her, they refused.

Balaraba stated that she remained strong in her faith while inside the cell and she prayed with both the Muslim and Christian detainees.
