The Senator representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti has revealed that Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), allegedly contacted her husband in an attempt to persuade her to withdraw a defamation lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking during an Arise TV interview from 28:46, she disclosed the private support she has received despite public silence from many colleagues. “I have enjoyed tremendous support from my colleagues, and the fact that a number of my colleagues have not spoken out publicly in my defense or criticize what has happened does not mean that they do not visit me privately at home or they do not call on me to give me words of encouragement,” she stated.
She then questioned the lack of public solidarity from her female counterparts. “While they are yet to come out openly to criticize the activities of the Senate President, that’s best known to them. However, one question I have asked quite a number of times is, why are the women silent? Why are the three other women silent?”
She explained that her defamation suit stemmed from comments made by Patrick Mfoh, the Senate President’s aide on Media. “The day I filed the suit of defamation against the comments by the Senate president’s aide on Media, Mr. Patrick Mfoh, by addressing my attire as being transparent, and that the only thing I know how to do is to wear pancake to the chambers.”
According to her, her female colleagues opposed her legal action. “Senator Kingibe and the other two women sent messages to me that they do not support the litigation. And none of them have called, apart from Senator Kingibe.”
In a startling revelation, Sen Natasha claimed, “Sen Ireti Kingibe called my husband and told him to tell me to withdraw that suit, and my husband charged at her, that you were the same person who had come to the house to tell him that the SP was hitting on his wife. So, why are you now against my wife standing up for her rights?”
