Despite the controversy surrounding the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, many notable Nigerians attended the book launch of former military ruler, General Ibrahim Babangida. Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba country, offered his thoughts on the matter. The Sun reports that Adams claimed that General Babangida’s tenure in office was beneficial for many of those who paid tribute to him.

He acknowledged that the former Head of State was responsible for the success of an oil magnate from the southeast who publicly presented Babangida N500 million. As Adams pointed out, General Babangida’s sway and influence extended far beyond any one region of Nigeria.
