Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed concern about how people forget the good things leaders have done and only focus on their mistakes. He made this statement while visiting the family of late Chief Edwin Clark, a respected elder statesman, alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other important figures.
In a video that was shared by SYMFONI TV, El-Rufai pointed out that many people do not realize the impact of past leaders. He gave an example of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, who licensed Nigeria’s three largest banks today. According to him, people do not give Babangida credit for that achievement. Similarly, he said that Atiku Abubakar played a major role in shaping Nigeria’s economy during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, but people rarely acknowledge his contributions.
He believes that one reason for this is that Nigerians do not write or read enough history. Because of this, people forget positive achievements and only remember the negative aspects of leaders.
El-Rufai also reminded Nigerians that, in the past, the northern and South-South regions had a strong political relationship. He encouraged Nigerians to remember this and work together to save the country, which he believes is in urgent need of help.
