U.S. President Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accusing him of misleading the United States into spending $350 billion on a war that he claims was unwinnable from the start.
In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump questioned how a former comedian managed to convince the U.S. government to pour billions into Ukraine’s conflict with Russia, arguing that the war could have been avoided altogether. He asserted that without U.S. intervention, Zelenskyy would be incapable of bringing the war to an end.
Trump also criticized the disparity in financial contributions between the United States and Europe, claiming that while the U.S. has invested $200 billion more, European support is guaranteed, whereas America is unlikely to see any return. He blamed President Joe Biden for failing to negotiate fairer financial terms and allowing the U.S. to bear a disproportionate burden despite Europe’s greater stake in the conflict.
The U.S. President further accused Zelenskyy of refusing to hold elections, claiming that his popularity in Ukraine has plummeted. He alleged that half of the financial aid provided to Ukraine has gone unaccounted for and suggested that Zelenskyy is more interested in prolonging the war to keep aid flowing rather than seeking a resolution.
Declaring that his administration is actively working to end the war, Trump insisted that neither Biden nor European leaders have made meaningful efforts toward peace. He maintained that only his leadership could bring the conflict to a close, stating that Ukraine has suffered immense destruction and loss of life under Zelenskyy’s rule.
