Former Edo State governor and APC chieftain, Adams Oshiomhole, has reaffirmed his commitment to free and fair elections, saying he fully supported the party’s candidate in the Edo governorship election, Monday Okpebholo, despite initially backing another aspirant in the primaries.
Speaking in an interview with Independent Television, Oshiomhole emphasized his principle of “One Man, One Vote,” stressing that he did not let personal preferences affect his loyalty to the party’s final choice.
He admitted that during the primaries, he had supported Dennis Idahosa, who later became the deputy governorship candidate. However, after Monday Okpebholo emerged as the APC flagbearer, he put aside his preference and campaigned wholeheartedly for him.
“I campaigned as if Okpebholo was my own baby boy. I fought the election the way I would fight my own election,” Oshiomhole said, highlighting his dedication to ensuring APC’s victory.
According to him, true democracy means accepting the outcome of a transparent election process. Rather than challenge the results in court, he threw his full weight behind Okpebholo, traveling across all 18 local government areas in Edo State to rally support for the APC candidate.
“Our candidate won, and that is the true meaning of One Man, One Vote,” he said, reiterating that the people’s choice must always be respected.
