Elder Statesman Dr. Charles Apoki, a distinguished Urhobo leader, recently shared his insights on Nigeria’s governance challenges.
In a thought-provoking YOUTUBE video from 2:30, He stressed the importance of unity among all Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds, noting that the issues in Nigeria will impact everyone if the truth is not upheld.
Dr. Apoki brought attention to a tragic incident involving a young man killed at Chevron Estate. Reportedly, this individual was betrayed by a neighbor, leading to his torture and death.
He reflected on the young man’s absence during protests against poor governance, suggesting he believed he was immune to such issues. Dr. Apoki powerfully conveyed that the problems in Nigeria can affect anyone unexpectedly.
His words,
“Whether you are Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, or whatever, Nigeria will catch up with you if you don’t stand for the truth. A young man was recently killed in Chevron estate. It was alleged that he was reported by his neighbor, and he was tortured and killed. That man, when people were protesting against bad governance, maybe he didn’t come out thinking it wouldn’t affect him. Nigeria catches up with you like the flu.”
