Lagos APC Chieftain Fouad Oki has warned that Lagos State could face more severe political turmoil than ongoing crises in Rivers and Osun states if supporters of impeached Speaker Mudasiru Obasa continue to resist the leadership change.
In a stark warning on Channels TV from 2:36, Fouad Oki emphasized the potential consequences of political resistance: “I want to say very clearly that if those that do not have a sense of history, or those that may either be benefactors of Honorable Mudasiru Obasa, was supporting him to cause a breach of the peace in Lagos. But we will again put our lives on the line to defend democracy.”
He added ominously, “If you see what happened today, you will begin to look at Rivers State – unfortunately, the mayhem that is also consuming Osun State. Unfortunately, what is happening in Rivers and Osun will be a child’s play compared to that of Lagos.”
The warning comes amid escalating tensions at the Lagos State Assembly, where DSS operatives and police locked the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the House clerk on Monday. Despite this security intervention, Meranda and fellow lawmakers eventually gained access, allowing her to conduct plenary sessions.
Meanwhile, former Speaker Obasa awaits a court ruling on his lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of his removal. The legal battle adds another layer of complexity to the already tense political situation in Lagos State. Obasa had claimed that his removal was initiated during the state House of Assembly recess.
