The family of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, accused the South East Governors of not putting in enough effort to secure his release.

According to The Vanguard, Prince Emmanuel Kanu stated this on Friday in Umuahia during a memorial for their late parents, HRM Eze Israel and Ugoeze Sally Kanu. He claimed that the Governors had not shown genuine commitment to securing Kanu’s freedom.

He questioned why they had not met the conditions set by the President, arguing that if they were truly serious about his release, they would have sought a meeting with the President to discuss the matter.

Prince Emmanuel praised Biafran elders and everyone who gathered with the family to mark the fifth anniversary of their parents’ passing.

He stated that his parents passed away due to the trauma they experienced following the military invasion of their country home on September 14, 2017.

He said, “We’re humbled to see the crowd that gathered in our house to honour my late parents who died as a result of the shock they had when the soldiers raided our house in 2017. 28 people were killed in our house during that raid.”

Further talking, he said, “The people have renamed today, February 14 , Saint Kanu’s Day to honour my late parents who were buried on February 14. We appreciate everyone for coming especially those from outside South-East States. We’re encouraged by their show of love.”
