Former governor of Enugu State, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, has stated that while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has not yet zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 election, he will advocate for a candidate from the southern region.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV from 14:18, he emphasized that regardless of whether it is President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or a candidate from the PDP, the next president of Nigeria should come from the south.
He argued that, just as former President Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner, completed two terms in office, the south should also have the opportunity to complete eight years in power.
Nwodo further stated that if President Tinubu completes his first term, the presidency should remain in the south for another four years to ensure regional balance. He expressed his commitment to campaigning for this cause when the time comes.
He said, “Well, we haven’t done the zoning, but I will advocate when we get to that point, that the south must complete its own eight years of presidency like Buhari did. Whether it’s going to be Tinubu or its somebody else from the south, the south should be allowed to do eight years, and I will campaign for that. Tinubu is from the south, if he does four years, the presidency should remain in the south for another four years.”
