Samuel Nwanosike, the former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, has shared his thoughts on the recent court case involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly.
Speaking in an interview with TVC from 10:44, Nwanosike said Fubara’s camp fell into a trap. He mentioned that when a court decision is not appealed, it is considered final and binding on the party that lost the case. He explained that in this situation, Governor Fubara’s legal team was unable to overturn the Court of Appeal’s decision, which had upheld Justice Omotoso’s ruling recognizing Martin Amaewhule as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Nwanosike stated that, as it stands, Amaewhule is the legitimate Speaker. He said that Femi Falana, Fubara’s lawyer, could say whatever he wanted, but he was fully aware of the reality. According to Nwanosike, Falana knew from the beginning that the case was weak and had no chance of success at the Supreme Court, which is why they decided to withdraw it.
In Nwanosike’s words: “Supreme Court has finished that matter. Martin Amaewhule being the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly is the law of Nigeria as we speak. It is unfortunate but they fell into the trap. So Femi Falana can come to tell anybody anything he wants to say but he knows the truth. He knows it was a bad case ab initio so he knows it is something that cannot stand before the Supreme Court justices so that is why they withdrew the case”
