A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has noted that unlike in 2023 when there was little dissatisfaction within the ruling All Progressives Congress, there are now signs of internal discontent.

Segun Showunmi, who spoke in an interview with Arise TV from 10:35, stressed that those who assess the 2027 elections using a rigid perspective based on past events will be in for a surprise.

Showunmi warned that underestimating former vice president Atiku Abubakar, particularly given his recent political engagements, including a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, would be a mistake.

He said that Atiku Abubakar has been actively engaging with key figures, including visiting former President Olusegun Obasanjo and participating in strategic meetings and public interactions.

According to him, Atiku Abubakar has consistently shown resilience, embodying the qualities of a true contender who faces setbacks but repeatedly rises to overcome challenges.

He said, “Atiku Abubakar has demonstrated the ability to be the man in the arena. The man in the arena is that guy that falls down, stands up, falls down, stands up again. I have a very strong feeling that those who evaluate 2027 with a strict mindset of the past, including that of 2023, are up for a shocker. Unlike in 2023, you didn’t have many people in the ruling party (APC) grumbling, and now that they are grumbling, and you see Atiku visiting people, saying hello to them, checking up on Obasanjo because he is a former boss, doing those fancy handshakes and photo ops, if you take him for granted, I think you’ll be shocked.”
