Femi Falana, SAN, has shared a personal experience about his legal battle with the government over the poor state of the Lagos-Benin road. He mentioned that during one of his travels on the road, it was in such a dangerous condition that he nearly lost his life.

Speaking in a video shared by Channels TV from 27:00, Falana disclosed that upon returning to Lagos, he decided to take legal action by filing a case to compel the government to repair the road. He explained that his motivation for going to court was because the bad state of the road posed a threat to his right to life. He said even though he did not win the case, the government eventually fixed the road, which was the outcome he had hoped for.

In Falana’s words: “There was a time I traveled on Lagos-Benin road, the road was so dangerous and I almost died. And when I returned to Lagos I went to court to compel the government to fix the road because my right to life was threatened. The judge said Mr Falana you have no locus standi. He said do you know the full meaning of your name? He said the Yoruba said Falana mind your own business. And I said my Lord I am minding my business by minding the business of the society. Even though I lost the case, the government had to fix the road”.
