A man arrested for an internet love scam has admitted that he used the money he got from the fraud to buy cars and sell them in Abuja. He also revealed that he purchased a house worth ₦65 million from the money he made.
In the video that was shared by SYMFONI TV, the suspect, while being paraded by the police, claimed that he was not the mastermind of the scam. According to him, another person started the fraudulent relationship with a woman named Deborah Woods and later invited him to join. His role was to ask for money from her by pretending to need financial help for his family.
“I was not the one who made her fall in love,” the suspect said. “The person who started it convinced her. I only came in later to request money.”
The woman eventually sent a total of $597,000, but the suspect claimed that not all of it was received. He personally collected over $200,000, out of which he gave $13,000 to the mastermind.
The suspect explained that he invested the money in selling cars and was able to buy a ₦65 million house last year. “I used the money to purchase cars and sell them in Abuja,” he said.
He also admitted that his conversations with the victim were not about love but were focused on making financial requests.
