Salama Shaibu, one of the students of Bethel Baptist High School who were rescued after they were abducted by bandits in 2021 has shared details about her ordeal in captivity

In an interview with Brekete Family, a human rights radio program, Shaibu said that after the bandits abducted her and other students, they were taken into the bush and fed. She said thereafter, the bandits demanded that the students select ten among themselves to be kîlled in order to pressure their families into paying ransom.

Shaibu said at one point, she considered volunteering herself to be kîlled but her classmate convinced her not to.

In Shaibu’s words: “After eating, they (bandits) told us to select ten people among ourselves whom they would kîll, so we would know they were serious and our ransom will get paid. I was like the seniors should go since they have enjoyed. At a point I wanted to be a hero and volunteer myself but one of my classmates told me that I and her won’t die here and the seniors should dîe before us. Everything was like a dream until we spent a day there
