Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the former Deputy President of the Senate and APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in Delta State, has made it clear that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is open to welcoming new members, except for two individuals from PDP —Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

In a report published by VANGUARD, he firmly stated that both leaders should remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and focus on rebuilding their party instead of defecting to APC.

Omo-Agege, who has been a prominent figure in the APC, addressed party leaders, elders, and stakeholders during a meeting held on Monday in Ika South and Ika North East local government areas. He noted that while the APC has made significant progress in Delta State, the party is not interested in accepting the two PDP leaders into its ranks.

“The APC is expanding rapidly in Delta, and several political figures are showing interest in joining us,” Omo-Agege said. He highlighted that the party had already secured significant victories in the 2023 elections, including two senatorial seats and two House of Representatives seats. This, he believes, shows that APC is not only present but gaining strength in the state.

Despite the growth of APC, Omo-Agege emphasized that Governor Oborevwori and Okowa are not part of the party’s plans. “We welcome everyone except Oborevwori and Okowa. They should remain in PDP and rebuild their party,” he stated firmly.

Omo-Agege also shared insights on the current political landscape in Delta State. He noted that, in the Delta Central Senatorial District, APC had won the senatorial seat, two out of three House of Representatives seats, and five out of nine House of Assembly seats. He pointed out that PDP had not won a single seat in the district, reinforcing the idea that APC is becoming more popular.

The senator also dismissed claims made by PDP that APC had lost its presence in Delta State after the 2023 elections. He pointed to the fact that the only remaining PDP senator in the state was preparing to join APC, and several House of Representatives members were also considering switching parties.

“We are growing, and PDP is not,” he added. Omo-Agege also took a dig at Oborevwori’s administration, accusing it of trying to undermine APC’s influence. He reminded party members of APC’s strong presence even in areas where PDP had previously been dominant.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Omo-Agege assured APC members that internal issues within the party in Delta would be resolved. He also mentioned that PDP’s national crisis could potentially weaken the party in future elections, making APC an even more attractive option.

Omo-Agege’s stance on Oborevwori and Okowa was clear. He said, “We have built this party from the ground up, and we will not allow people with questionable records to destroy what we have worked so hard for.” He further explained that while APC is welcoming to all other members, these two leaders should stay in PDP to rebuild it.
