The Nigeria Police Force has busted a significant arms trafficking network, arresting 63 suspected gun runners and seizing 191 firearms and 4,255 rounds of ammunition during strategic operations in Plateau State.
Among those apprehended was Salamatu Iliya, a fashion designer from Bauchi State, who provided a candid admission of her involvement during media coverage by Symfoni TV From 0:32. “I was arrested because I gave Bako Isa ammunition to sell. I have a daughter at home. I regret this action honestly,” she stated.
Addressing future offenders and other Nigerian women, Iliya offered a stark warning: “My advice to women and ladies out there is that they should not involve themselves in this kind of act.”
Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the arrests followed “credible intelligence” which enabled operatives from the Force Intelligence Division-Intelligent Response Team (FID-IRT) to track down the initial suspect and uncover a substantial hidden weapons cache.
The operation comes against the backdrop of Plateau State’s complex security landscape. While the region has experienced periodic violence in recent years, recent months have seen a relative decline in criminal activities.
