According to NEWS CENTRAL TV, A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akin Bash, has questioned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over his decision to submit himself for screening if he had no intention of accepting a ministerial position.

Bash raised the issue following El-Rufai’s recent withdrawal from consideration for a ministerial appointment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administrations. The former governor had undergone the Senate screening process but later declined the offer, citing personal reasons.

Recall, according to PUNCH, Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, said, on Thursday, he never wanted an appointment in the government of President Bola Tinubu. He said he made this clear enough long before Tinubu won the presidential election in 2023

Speaking on the matter, Akin Bash criticized El-Rufai’s actions, arguing that it raised concerns about his true intentions.

“If you never wanted an appointment, why did you submit yourself for screening at the House of Assembly, Bash asked. “This is a question that many APC members and Nigerians at large deserve an answer to.”

El-Rufai, a key figure in the APC, was initially among the nominees for ministerial positions but later reportedly informed President Tinubu that he would no longer be available to serve.

Bash suggested that such a move could indicate deeper political undercurrents. “It sends mixed signals,” he stated. “At a time when the nation is expecting strong leadership and commitment, actions like this raise eyebrows.”

While El-Rufai has remained largely silent on the issue, political analysts believe his withdrawal could be linked to internal disagreements or concerns over his Senate screening outcome.

Bash, however, maintained that accountability was crucial. “Leadership is about responsibility. If a leader subjects himself to a process, he should be ready to see it through,” he concluded.

As discussions around El-Rufai’s decision continue, many within the APC and beyond will be watching closely to see if he provides further clarification on his stance.
