An incident that might further dent the image of Nigeria internationally involving a yahoo boy from the country is currently trending across the globe.
The suspected yahoo boy, Abolore Lawal has since been extradited to the United States of America for blackmailing 17-year-old American, Guffey Gavin, till he committed suicide.
Lawal had reportedly posed as a girl, coerced the boy to send him explicit photos. He then, threatened to distribute the pictures unless the boy sent him money.
17 year old Guffey Gavin couldn’t handle the pressure, and he resorted to suicide in 2022.
Lawal was subsequently arrested in October 2023, and was recently extradited to South Carolina, US, where he will likely be paying a compensation and serving a life sentence.
Sextortion is now a criminal offence in South Carolina, particularly when kids are involved.
The bill was sponsored by Gavin’s father, after his death, and it was approved in August 2023.
