A man who was arrested for cutting off his wife’s wrist has told men of the Enugu State Police Command that he did so because she was involved in extramarital affairs, the command disclosed in a statement on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
The state police command announced the development on its Facebook wall on Tuesday afternoon, saying the man, whose name was given as Sunday Echege, aged 33 years, was arrested by operatives attached to the Okpuje Divisional Headquarters of the command.
The man, who is a farmer, was said to have used a machete to cut off the left wrist of his wife, Chinonso Echege, at their farm settlement located at Ibagwa-Ani community in the Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the arrest was made possible with the assistance of law-abiding members of the community who held him before the arrival of policemen after he carried out the act. The machete was also recovered from him at the point of his arrest.
The command wrote: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who has confessed to the crime, claimed he acted out of suspicion that his wife was involved in extramarital affairs.”
He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives about his action and he is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
