According to Vanguard, Former President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he supports himself through rental income from one of his two houses in Kaduna State, underscoring the importance of transparency and accountability in public office.
During an All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting on January 25 at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Katsina State’s Government House, Buhari emphasized that he refrained from corrupt practices during his presidency, noting that the complexities of Nigeria make governance particularly challenging.
Speaking in Hausa, Buhari disclosed that he owns only three houses: one in his hometown of Daura in Katsina State, and two in Kaduna State.
He mentioned that one of the properties in Kaduna is rented out, and the rent helps cover his daily expenses.
“After my eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses; one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for renting where I get money for feeding,” he said.
Buhari pointed out that many Nigerians fail to fully appreciate the challenges of governing a diverse country like Nigeria and often criticize leaders during or after their time in office.
“Nigeria is a challenging country to govern, but many Nigerians don’t realize this. You won’t truly grasp the complexities of leadership and the nation until you are in a position of administration,” he said.
The former president also mentioned that he is in better health and feels more at ease since leaving office.
“I look much healthier now than I did when I was president. Anyone who sees me now recognizes that I look better than before,” Buhari said with a tone of relief.
