In a recent interview from 8:12 shared by Arise News, ADC chieftain, Chille Igbawua, addressed the ongoing dispute between the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the interpretation of a recent court ruling

Reacting to INEC’s position, Igbawua maintained that the commission had overstepped its legal boundaries by acting beyond the scope of the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal. He emphasized that the ruling did not grant INEC the authority to make independent interpretations affecting the leadership structure of the party.

“The Court of Appeal said to go back and try the matter on its merits. It did not order INEC to constitute itself into a court of law,” Igbawua stated.

He explained that the appellate court merely referred the matter back to the trial court for proper adjudication, stressing that no directive was issued empowering INEC to take administrative actions based on its own interpretation.

According to him, the commission’s actions raise concerns about neutrality and due process, especially in politically sensitive matters. He insisted that where there is ambiguity in a court ruling, the appropriate step is to seek clarification from the court, not to assume judicial authority.

Igbawua further noted that the ADC remains committed to lawful processes and will respond appropriately after reviewing the situation, while urging members and supporters to remain calm. Read_More…
