A lawyer from the Afe Babalola law firm in Ibadan has stated that if they allow such behaviour from human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi to go unchecked, it will undermine the trust the public has placed on legal practitioners.
This statement was contained in a report that was published by VANGUARD on Friday.
According to report, the lawyer made the statement while confirming that the Afe Babalola law firm in Ibadan has submitted a petition to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, seeking the removal of Dele Farotimi, from the register of legal practitioners in Nigeria.
The lawyer who spoke in anonymity stated that they cannot remain silent while the judiciary’s reputation is jeopardized. He said upholding the highest ethical standards is not optional; it is a responsibility.
The lawyer from the firm was quoted as saying;
“If we allow such behaviour to go unchecked, it undermines the trust the public places in us as legal practitioners. Upholding the highest ethical standards is not optional; it is a responsibility.
“The allegations against Farotimi do not only reflect on him but on the entire legal profession. We cannot remain silent while the judiciary’s reputation is jeopardized”.
