The recent demolition of a property owned by the late Colonel Paul Ogbebor in Abuja has drawn sharp criticism from Chidi Odinkalu, a prominent law professor and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission. Odinkalu, known for his vocal stance on human rights and governance issues, has expressed deep concern over what he perceives as a blatant abuse of power by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Odinkalu highlighted the troubling trend of judicial rulings being used to justify questionable actions by those in power. In this case, Wike is accused of revoking the ownership of the late Colonel’s property and allegedly reallocating it to one of his associates from Rivers State. Odinkalu’s criticism reflects a broader concern about how the rule of law is increasingly being weaponized to serve personal and political interests.
His post reads, “Folks from my insatiable friend, the greedy glutton, are apparently in position to begin rooting out everything on the current object of his desire on Col. Paul Ogbebor’s property. Thereafter, I am sure, they will tell their victims to go to court.”
