Following the arrest of human rights activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi by the Nigeria Police Force, economist and politician Pat Utomi of Nigeria took to his official X account to express his condemnation.

The arrest of Dele Farotimi is a sad one, according to the post made by Pat Utomi on Wednesday. As a result of this, they have called for sanctions from throughout the world, according to Pat Utomi.

Pat Utomi said that he understands where the problem is headed since he escaped assassination attempts during Sani Abacha’s administration.

If you believe Pat Utomi;

“I receive with much sadness the news of the arrest of Dele Farotimi, a strong voice for democracy in Nigeria. As one who survived assassination attempts under Abacha, I know where this points to, no matter the excuses, be they civil and not criminal, that are being thrown up for his arrest. Such actions led us to call for international sanctions, which made the regime a pariah. It seems we are ready for that again. George Santayana warned that those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it”.
