In a recent statement via his official X account, Dele Farotimi, a human rights lawyer and former spokesperson for the Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), has shared his thoughts on a controversial statement made online.
The discussion started on X (formerly Twitter) when a user claimed that Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, would lose again if he contested in 2027 without forming a strong opposition coalition.
Farotimi responded to this statement and challenged the idea that Obi had lost in the last election, instead, he argued that the real loss belonged to Nigerians.
“This consistent ability to find compromise with, and accommodation for evil, has assured that we have never been free of agitations in our country for decades. And point of correction, Obi lost NOTHING, the victims of Nigeria lost,” Farotimi wrote.
The lawyer’s comment highlights his view that Nigeria’s political challenges go beyond individual candidates and pointed to the systemic issues that he believes hinder progress in the country, according to him, the compromises made in politics often allow harmful practices to continue.
