A Public Affair Analyst and Anti Corruption, Abba Kaka has alleged that the Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is considered as a high-risk individual and should be denied a bail by the Judge because of the potential for him to flee the country.
He argued that his possible escape would impose a financial burden on the people of Kogi State, particularly in light of the significant misappropriation of public funds associated with his administration. He expressed his expectation that Bello’s passport should also be confiscated during the court proceedings. He drew comparisons to other political figures, mentioning that former governors have had their passports seized as a precautionary measure.
He said in an interview with Arise TV From 10:59, ‘The judges have the prerogative to give bails, of course, under the Constitution. But my personal opinion is that he’s [Yahaya Bello] a high-risk individual from what has happened from the drama. But, of course, due process should take place, just like the former Governor of Delta State, his passports were seized, and the other Governor’s passports were seized.
So, I expect also that his passport should be seized today in court. And if I were the judge, I would not give him bail because he’s a high-risk individual that might escape. And the Kogi people will be left with a burden of 110 billion naira in just one case. Remember the case of the school children, the school… there’s a lot of misappropriation of public funds going on in this case.”
