In a recent statement via his official X account, Mahdi Shehu, a well-known human rights activist and political commentator, has responded to Reno Omokri’s criticism of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
Omokri, on his official X account, questioned Peter Obi’s silence regarding Simon Ekpa’s arrest in Finland.
Ekpa, a controversial figure, was reportedly detained on suspicion of engaging in terrorist activities and compared Obi’s silence to his urgent reactions in other cases.
“Why has Peter Obi been unusually and loudly quiet since Simon Ekpa’s arrest on suspicion of engaging in terrorist activities by the Finnish government? Please fact-check me: When Julius Abure, the Labour Party Chairman, was arrested, Peter Obi spoke up within hours. When PIDOM Nigeria was arrested, Obi spoke up, calling Nigeria a “Banana Republic”. Peter Obi even spoke up after being detained at London’s Heathrow Airport.
So, why is he quiet now over Ekpa’s arrest? Is this not the same man who always has something to say if it is a matter that touches the Southwest or the North? Why this strange quietness? TableShaker,” Omokri wrote.
In response, Mahdi Shehu defended Obi while questioning Omokri’s motives and consistency and suggested that Omokri’s changing allegiances undermine his credibility, accusing Omokri of hypocrisy, listing examples of his shifting loyalties.
“Before obi responds with dignity, please answer the following questions. You hob-nobbed with Atiku and called Tinubu and Drug Baron and Forger. You are now all over Tinubu in London and.other place. You were seen in Photoshop with Nuhu Ribadu recently. You are defending every of Tinubu’s economic and political policies that are both stupid and dangerous.
Are you looking for an appointment? They won’t give you because you have displayed enough of industrial brand of hypocrisy and desparation, in addition to being too fluid to be trusted,” Mahdi Shehu wrote.
