Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Rtd. General Christopher Musa, has declared that the government will apply strict legal penalties against terrorists and bandits involved in abduction and kidnapping.

Speaking in an interview from 7:44 with News Central TV, General Musa said, “There must be deterrence, no two ways about it. Someone must know that once you commit an offense, there must be punishment. In America, they still carry out the death penalty against terrorists. So why are we different?”

The Minister argued that lenient laws only encourage criminal behavior. “If the laws are soft on offenders, people will take advantage. I think that’s what’s happening. Nigeria is a very religious country, both faiths don’t take it lightly with people who commit such things. Abduction and kidnapping carry very severe punishment in both faith, and I think we will enforce that. It will serve as a deterrent to others.”

General Musa also addressed the broader security threats facing the country, linking Nigeria’s instability to regional turbulence.
