In a sharp critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ministerial appointments, Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate, questioned the suitability of some ministers to effectively manage their portfolios. Speaking on interview with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily from 20:16, Adebayo stressed that technical expertise in a profession does not necessarily translate to administrative or governance competence.
Using the current Minister of Health as an example, Adebayo said, “The gentleman, a very good, brilliant doctor, is coordinating social welfare, but he cannot even run hospitals. He’s qualified to treat diseases as a doctor.” He drew a historical parallel, highlighting Mallam Aminu Kano’s success as a Minister of Health despite not being a medical doctor.
“A brilliant lawyer may not be a good attorney general. A brilliant doctor may not be a good minister of health. A good banker who can help you keep your money may not be able to run an economy,” Adebayo added, underscoring that governance requires administrative acumen, strategic vision, and the ability to manage systems effectively, rather than just field-specific expertise.
