In the past few weeks, particularly following an interview with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, on The Honest Bunch podcast, Obi suggested that Nigeria should turn “night vigils” into “evening shifts” to boost citizens’ productivity.

Obi’s remark sparked debate and controversy on social media, with some netizens supporting the former Anambra State governor’s stance and others disagreeing with his view.

Amid the reactions, Dr. Joe Abah, a governance expert, shared his understanding of Obi’s statement, suggesting that Nigeria should work towards a 24/7 economy—a sentiment he agrees with. Dr. Joe Abah tweeted:

“We should work towards a 24/7 economy. This is my understanding of what Peter Obi was saying, and I agree with him. To achieve that, we need security, electricity, and a good transport system. If we have a 24/7 economy, people’s nighttime activities will naturally balance out.”
