The President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero has expressed strong concern for the welfare of workers in Rivers State over the Federal High Court ruling that stops FAAC allocation to Rivers state. He emphasized that the NLC cannot stand idly by while these workers suffer.
He refrained from delving into legal specifics but urged the judiciary to avoid actions that could lead to self-destruction. He highlighted the unique authority of the Supreme Court, noting that it is the only court capable of reviewing its own decisions and that no other court can overturn its rulings. He stressed the importance of adhering to established legal precedents of the Supreme Court on allocation to the states.
He said in a live coverage with Symfoni from 5:54, ‘NLC cannot sit and watch River State workers suffer. While we are not going to go into jurisprudence or the position of the judiciary, the NLC is also advising the Judiciary not to go on self-destruct. We are told that you can only appeal to God when the Supreme Court talks. It is only the Supreme Court that can review itself, and no other court can overturn the position of the Supreme Court.
The very moment a precedent is laid in law, you follow it. So the judiciary should be the last hope of the common man, and we want to plead with the NBA and others to look into what is happening in Rivers State. Some people, even live benchers, are seeing what is happening and they’re keeping quiet.”
