According to a report by The Punch on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has issued a stern warning to 3,598 civil servants who failed to participate in the 2021 verification exercise.

These employees now have from Monday, August 18, to Thursday, August 28, 2025, to appear for a re-verification or face immediate dismissal. The FCSC stated that failure to comply will be considered proof of holding a fake appointment letter.

The re-verification will take place across various ministries and government agencies, including Education, Information, and Labour, which have the highest number of affected staff.

Officers must present both original and photocopies of crucial documents, including their appointment and promotion letters, gazette of appointment, staff change letter, and their July 2025 IPPIS payslip.

The FCSC emphasized that no further extensions will be granted, and this is the final opportunity for the affected workers to prove the authenticity of their employment.

This move is part of a broader government effort to combat corruption and weed out ghost workers from the federal payroll.

The commission has made it clear that those who do not show up are presumed to be deliberately avoiding detection.

This directive highlights the government’s serious commitment to sanitizing the civil service and ensuring that only legitimate workers are on its payroll.

The exercise is a critical step in addressing a long-standing issue of fraudulent appointments that has plagued the public sector.
