Samuel Nwanosike, the former chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, has spoken about the conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule.
Speaking in a video shared by News Central TV, Nwanosike said Fubara had said that he would send the 27 lawmakers back to their villages. He said Fubara should not have made such statement. He also said that the Supreme Court has already provided clear guidance on how to resolve the crisis. He emphasized that the 27 lawmakers, led by Amaewhule, should be allowed to carry out their legislative duties without interference.
Nwanosike also said that Fubara, as governor, should respect the legislative arm of government by presenting the 2025 budget to the lawmakers as required by law.
In Nwanosike’s words: “Fubara said ‘I will decide who will stay as the assembly or I will decide which assembly to work with’. In fact, using his actual words he said, ‘I just allowed them floating and I am going to send them to their villages’. No democrat speaks like that.
