Sam Kargbo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan should not contest the 2027 presidential election. He said that if Jonathan decides to run against President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he will most likely lose.

In an interview with Silverbird TV from 17:02, Kargbo said those encouraging Jonathan to join the race do not have his best interest at heart. He said if Jonathan decides to contest in 2027, it will benefit the APC and Tinubu.

Kargbo said the people who would vote for Jonathan are the same group that normally vote against the APC. He said If Jonathan enters the race, those opposition votes will be divided between him and opposition presidential candidates, and Tinubu will have a much easier chance of winning.

In Kargbo’s words: “I would rather want to address the more pertinent issue which is whether or not former President Jonathan should contest. And I would say no because he will lose. Whoever is drafting him to come just wants to deplete the goodwill he is enjoying and just wants to see him disgraced. Let us face it, if he comes, he is going to just play Tinubu’s game. The person who will rejoice is the APC because what votes is he coming to garner? Definitely it is going to be that of the opposition. They are going to split it”
