Speaking during TVC Breakfast on Saturday 19 July, 2025, political commentator Yusuf Haroun has asserted that Labour Party’s Peter Obi remains indecisive about his 2027 presidential ambitions, despite growing pressure from opposition figures to lead a coalition against President Bola Tinubu.

“Peter Obi himself doesn’t know what he’s going to do now,” Haroun stated during a televised analysis, citing Obi’s reluctance to commit to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite overtures from its stalwarts.

Haroun dismissed the potential impact of newly formed coalitions like the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that without incumbent governors or strong grassroots structures, such alliances pose little threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He referenced Tinubu’s historical influence as a “kingmaker turned king,” predicting an easy re-election bid based on Nigeria’s political trends, including the swing-state dynamics of Kwara and the power of incumbency.

While acknowledging Obi’s “6 million-strong” Obidient movement, Haroun downplayed his chances, insisting that fragmented opposition and Tinubu’s control of institutional leverage would dominate the next electoral cycle. The analyst further criticized coalition efforts as “grievance-driven,” comparing them to the failed New PDP movement of 2013.

Meanwhile, Tinubu’s allies remain confident, with Haroun declaring: “The president is going to win re-election. The kingmaker is now the king.
