‎‎A senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Jerry Gana, has stated that although Peter Obi is a good candidate, the PDP has someone better to contest in 2027, as reported by Daily Post on Saturday, 2 August, 2025.

‎Gana explained that the PDP is seriously preparing for the next presidential election.

‎He believes that the party needs a strong and widely accepted candidate to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

‎Gana said Obi has the potential to perform well, especially in northern Nigeria, but claimed that the PDP has more capable candidates.

‎He revealed that the PDP is reaching out to Obi and others as part of a wider search for the right presidential candidate.

‎Peter Obi was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections.

‎He left the PDP in 2022 to run under the LP.

‎Recently, he has also been working with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition.

‎Despite this, Gana believes Obi would be more successful if he returns to the PDP.

‎He said that voters in the North are fair and would support Obi if he contested under the PDP.

‎Gana also stated that the PDP made some errors in 2023, and he suggested that the party should correct them before the next election.

‎He added that if things were done differently, Obi could have been the party’s running mate or even the presidential candidate.

‎“The PDP is on the ground. I’m a researcher, and I research opinions. In the northern states, Peter Obi under the PDP will defeat any candidate because our people are very fair-minded and just.

‎We are reaching out to Peter Obi. Because I’m leading a search team and there are many brilliant people. Peter Obi may be good, but we now have somebody better. So, we are searching,” he said.
